WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW FROM YOU:
We understand the vast area of automotive repair and the technological terms that come with that so we are trying to provide a window into that terminology that will help you navigate your way through this process. We don't care if you're going to the grocery store and what you were going to buy! LOL What we do care about is needing the information that is listed below:
- Year/Make/Model: the year model, brand of the vehicle(GMC, Chevy, Dodge, Ford, etc.) and the model it is; VIN=17 digit number located on your driver door, base of windshield on the drivers side or inside the driver side door frame
- Size of your truck: 1/2, 3/4, 1-ton=1500, 2500, 3500
- # of Lug nuts on your wheels: 6 lugs is 1/2 ton vehicle; 8 lugs=3/4-1ton
- 2WD or 4WD? Do you have a shifter on the floor or an electronic switch on the dash?
- What do you use the vehicle for? (i.e. hauling cattle/camper/boat/atv, everyday driver, hot shot drivers, rock climbing/crawling, REDNECKS WITH PAYCHECKS)
- Slipping: vehicle trying to shift to the next gear and the RPMs go sky high and stay that way or eventually take the next gear
- Delay in engagement: when you put the shifter in D/R and give it gas and there is no exceleration or the engagement is delayed
- Hard shift: you can feel it more so than before
- Long shift: seems to take longer to change gears
- Torque Converter Shudder: feeling of driving over a cattle guard or the rumble strips that are on the side of the highways
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF ASK THESE:
#1: Ask the shop if they charge to diagnose vehicles, we don't. If so, how much and what does that involve?
#2: Do not call a shop and tell them you need a major transmission overhaul; if you diagnose your vehicle chances are they won't contradict you. Tell them you need your vehicle diagnosed.
#3: Demand an "out the door" price, if they can't give you that there is a reason why. If they are in the business they know what each transmission takes to do an overhaul and should be able to provide a guaranteed quote.
